In the wake of the Eagle Gold Mine disaster, our community faced the brunt of the environmental and economic fall out. Immediately, NNDDC sprang into action by proactively connecting NND Citizens and NND Citizen owned businesses with economic opportunities within our network. On October 23, we met with NND Citizens in Mayo to seek more guidance and direction on where financial gaps remained, and how NNDDC may continue to work towards closing them.
Since then, we’ve had several Citizens and community members reach out to share their stories, and seek support in navigating getting back to work, which we've been proud to assist in. During this time, NNDDC has also remained in close conversation with the Receiver, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), and have been strongly advocating for the prioritization of NND Citizens and NND Citizen businesses.
We are optimistic that we will reach a formal agreement on this matter early in the new year. This work has been successful in closing that economic gap for some of our people, but our work is still not over. The Eagle Gold Mine is a catastrophe in every way. NNDDC is committed to mitigating the economic burden put on NND Citizens as a result of this crisis, in any way within our capacity.
