The entire team at Na-Cho Nyäk Dun Development Corporation wishes to express our immense heartbreak over Victoria Gold’s Eagle Mine heap leach facility failure. The land and our waters are the bedrock of all we do. It informs our values, our business priorities, and the future we are working to build for our Citizens. NNDDC stands with Chief Hope and The First Nation of Na-Cho Nyäk Dun in their identification of the seriousness of this incident. We are in full support and collaboration with our Nation and the initiatives they are leading to address this crisis.
In the past week NNDDC has been dedicated to connecting Citizen businesses that have been impacted by the halt of operations with new contract opportunities. If you or anyone you know has lost income due to this incident, please reach out and our team will do the best we can to make connections within our business community. NNDDC’s operations have pivoted to support the Nation and their work at this time. While we are a stable organization that has the resources to be able to step in for our community, our corporate priority landscape has shifted in order to accomplish this. We are grateful for the patience and support from our business community at this time.
NNDDC is committed alongside the FN NND to share updates with Citizenship on this matter as more information becomes available. The seriousness of this incident cannot be understated and we are prioritizing addressing this crisis and the impacts on community in our work.
